MSYAP Student Artists respond to questions:

How have the MSYAP Performance Classes been helpful in your growth as a performer?
…I felt that the performance classes really kept me on my toes. I'm glad that I had the constant pressure of having to be prepared for them. They also helped my nerves and confidence. I really enjoyed the last one we had where we talked for a while. I felt that I gained a lot whenever we had group discussions such as that one.
…Students offer valid and good suggestions
…It allowed for more opportunities to share music with students in a non-stressful environment. I could figure out what worked/ not work. Also, I could see the growth of other students, and give suggestions without having to appear critical.

How have MSYAP Master Classes been helpful in your growth as a performer?
Each teacher provided different and valuable insight in which I was able to experiment. I also had the freedom to use or not use their suggestions in my playing.
…I think that the most important thing that I learned myself as a performer was how to prepare for something like that. I now know exactly what they entail. I also felt that it was nice to get the exposure to the different teaching styles. Each teacher brought something uniquely different yet extremely valuable with them. It was also a good opportunity to meet each of them, I know that little things like that will certainly come in handy some day.

How have MSYAP Showcase Concerts been helpful in your growth as a performer?
…I felt that these added a nice sense of accomplishment to the program. This felt sort of similar to the performance class for me because of the added performance opportunities. Having a lot to prepare for really helped to motivate me. I have also been performing better in my own teacher’s recitals since. It might be nice however to play in a different venue every now and then.
…Makes me not as nervous when I perform, feel more confident
…There were very good performance opportunities and it allowed me to explore my spontaneity under stress.

What has your overall experience with the MSYAP been like this past season?
…I really felt as though it was more of a personal experience, that even though there was a group, the goals and elements were based around me and my improvement.
...GREAT!
…Excellent and busy; but not too busy.
Do you plan on participating in next year's program? Why or why not?
…I plan to, I can never be positive this early on but I definitely want to.
…  Yes, this has been a great educational experience. I have matured a lot musically through the MSYAP.
…Of course!

Parents of MSYAP student artists respond to questions:

As a parent, have you seen positive signs of musical growth in your child that is your opinion due to their participation in MSYAP? What are they?

…Yes, It created a comfortable and positive environment for students to perform in public which resulted more relaxed playing and better confidence. In addition, the exposure to critiques and experiences from master class will better prepare them for their future auditions and performances.

… Halle has always  been a serious student and  MSYAP provided  her with the exciting challenges that encouraged her to grow to new musical heights.  She has a great relationship with her private teacher, Dana Freeman and  MYSAP has enhanced that.  I have seen Halle has take a fresh approach to her performance and presentation skills.

What do you think of the overall cost of MSYAP compared to other similar programs?

…I don't have enough data for other similar programs. The overall cost of MSYAP is reasonable considering the opportunities of MasterClasses and Performances classes.
… The cost of MSYAP is very reasonable for all that the program offers!  It is very personnel and customized compared to  other programs.

Do you have anything else you wish to add about your childs MSYAP experience?
One of the best aspects of MSYAP is the positive and intimate atmosphere.  It has been wonderful to have Halle playing for such significant Artists/Teachers, she has learned so much from all the different approaches.  The caliber of the the other students is very high and all the different musical ideas exchanged have been both educational and fun!  This is very well suited for the serious student.

… My child has definitely started to learn how to play chamber music and play musically.

Teachers of participating MSYAP students respond to questions:

…Several of my students have participated in MSYAP. This program is brilliant partly because of it's simplicity. Preparing to perform for peers on a regular basis requires great discipline and tenacity. Actually performing is an act of tremendous courage. Listening to great performances is inspiring. And hearing other's mistakes is a relief, which stimulates compassion. There is no substitute for listening to and playing
